It’s origins are in Germany and France and came to the Appalachian mountain states of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. Ernie has a unique method of playing a base and  regular dulcimer at the same time. A past midwest regional dulcimer champion,  Ernie enjoys performing old Irish tunes along with folk and contemporary songs.  He even throws in some intricate classical songs on this elegant string instrument.

Ernie has played many venues over the years including the Michigan Festival, St. Johns Mint Festival, Silver Bells in the City, Kelava Days Festival, Southern Michigan Dulcimer Festival, and a variety of other music events. He also enjoys performing in area restaurants, farmer’s markets, weddings, and nursing homes. Block is especially fond of entertaining elementary students and daycare children. Teaching kids and others about playing the dulcimer and it’s history is one of his many passions.
